Spring is in the air, and in addition to the warmer temperatures and colorful flowers, there’s the usual itch to tidy up your home. That’s right, it’s time for some spring cleaning. Box up your winter clothes, scrub the baseboards, and… organize your bathroom? Yep! What better time than now to make sure your bathroom is spick and span? We’ve got a few tips for those of you ready to buckle down and get your powder room sparkling.
The Initial Tidying
Before you get to any deep cleaning, you have to make sure you’ve picked up the clutter. Do a walkthrough with a trashcan and throw away anything you don’t need or use. This includes things hiding in drawers, cabinets, and linen closets. A good rule of thumb is if you haven’t used it in six months, toss it. If it’s empty, toss it or recycle it.
Once you’ve gotten rid of the trash and unused items, pick up any clutter. Clothes, makeup, grooming accessories and tools, and any other items that are cluttering up the counters and shelves need to find a home, even if it’s a temporary one. This will help during your deep cleaning.
The Deep Clean
Pull on the rubber gloves and get out the cleaning supplies. It’s time to get down and dirty — or rather, clean. Use the cleaner of your choice to clean and disinfect all the surfaces of the bathroom, including the sink, counter, mirror, tub, shower, and toilet. We prefer to give them a good scrub with a lightly abrasive sponge to make sure they’re good and clean, but make sure it’s safe for the surface you’re cleaning.
The Organization
Once all surfaces are clean, it’s time to give good thought to how your bathroom is organized. Of course, you can’t do much about where the shower or sink is located, but you can decide if where you’ve been keeping your towels, shampoo, and toothbrush is all ideal. Make sure that you’re keeping all of your dental hygiene products together to ensure that you use all of them. Keeping your toothbrush, toothpaste, mouthwash, and floss (whether string, floss picks, or water flosser) in one place helps remind you to get through all steps of your routine before you take off for work or hit the sack for a good night’s sleep.
