At What Age Do I Need Dentures?

Permanent teeth can fall out because of decay, trauma, gum disease, and other oral health issues. Because humans only have one set of permanent teeth, we need restorative dentistry to replace any missing teeth! Dentures are a popular option. At what age do most people need dentures?

When Will I Need Dentures?

According to research, around one-quarter of adults aged 65 and older have 8 or fewer teeth. About 1 in 6 in this age group don’t have any teeth! While dentures are associated with getting older, tooth loss isn’t exclusive to older adults. Factors like smoking, gum disease, and poor oral hygiene can cause tooth loss in anyone, even young people. If you maintain great oral health and visit the dentist regularly, you may never need dentures!

What Types of Dentures Are There?

We offer full and partial dentures at our office. Full dentures replace entire lower or upper arches. These attach to your gum line with dental adhesive or dental implants. Implants are small posts surgically placed in your jaw to replace missing tooth roots. Dentures can be placed on top of the implants to provide better stability.

Partial dentures are used when you’re only missing a few teeth. Instead of adhesive, partial implants have metal or plastic clips that attach to your natural teeth. The artificial teeth fill in the gaps.

How Much Do Dentures Cost?

There’s a wide price range depending on factors like what materials are used, if you have dental insurance, and whether you’re getting implants. Our office accepts insurance and CareCredit, which breaks treatment costs into manageable monthly payments. We also offer a membership plan for uninsured patients.
