When you wake up in the morning, how do you feel? Completely rested or tired and groggy? When your alarm goes off, do you have a clear head or do you find that you often have a headache and a dry mouth? Have you been told you snore loud enough to wake the whole house? If you regularly have trouble getting a good night’s sleep, we may be able to help!
Your Mouth, Teeth & Airway
At Milltown Family Dentistry, our patients are occasionally surprised to learn that not only do we treat your teeth, gums, and mouth, but we can also help patients get relief from sleep apnea, snoring, and other sleep disorders.
Snoring & Sleep Apnea
While snoring is not always a sign of a serious condition, it can be an indicator of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). OSA is a condition that causes you to temporarily stop breathing while you sleep, sometimes hundreds of times per night. Apart from feeling chronically tired, the decrease in oxygen to your body increases your risk of developing other serious medical issues, like high blood pressure, diabetes, and heart failure.
Sleep Apnea Treatment
For certain people, an oral appliance will restore their sleep. During sleep, your tongue can relax in the back of your throat, blocking your airway. We custom-create a mouthpiece that will help keep your airway open while you sleep to prevent snoring and apnea. These appliances subtly adjust the positioning of your jaw to limit the movement of your tongue. If you’ve been told you snore, ask Drs. Ben and Megumi Lambeth about our snore appliances during your next visit.
